Relaxed Performance

What is a Relaxed Performance? The Kingston Symphony’s Relaxed Performances are concerts specifically intended to be welcoming to audience members who may benefit from a more relaxed environment, including the Neurodiverse and Disability communities. Feel free to move, vocalize, and experience the Kingston Symphony your way!

How does it work?

These performances differ from other Kingston Symphony concerts in a number of ways:

  • Audience members are welcome to move around, express themselves vocally and leave (and re-enter) the concert hall.
  • Audience members will have advance access to a Venue Guide that details the concert experience, step by step, in order to reduce anxiety, and a concert-specific fact sheet with detailed information about the performance itself.
  • A row of seats at the back of the hall will be kept empty should guests wish to move away from the sound of the Orchestra on stage.
  • Audience members will have access to a quiet room furnished with comfortable seating, stress-relieving fidgets, and relaxing activities.
  • The Kingston Symphony will provide other resources, such as sound-dampening headphones, that can be signed out before the concert and returned afterward.
  • Specialized training will be provided to musicians, Kingston Symphony staff, and front-of-house personnel at the Grand Theatre or Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts by Relaxed Performance Consultant Rachel Marks.
