Harmon in Space

Follow Harmon's Musical Adventures

Harmon the Hound is everybody's favourite canine astronaut. Exploring the universe in her spaceship, she's on a quest for musical knowledge with her witty sidekick computer, Showdan. Along the way, she will meet new friends, including musicians from the Kingston Symphony, who will teach her all about the instruments in an orchestra. Will Harmon be able to learn them all? And what instrument will she decide to play at her big audition on planet Ripieno III? Catch all the action on YouTube in our web series Harmon in Space!

That Symphony Feeling

What our audiences say

Beethoven’s Ninth

On Sunday my wife and I attended the most wonderful performance of Beethoven’s Ninth. It was without any doubt an experience that will remain with us for years to come. Thank you to Evan Mitchell and the entire ensemble for their very dedicated and captivating performance. It was a pleasure to be in attendance to witness such heartfelt music.

Harmon in the Classroom

Thank you so much for your show, Harmon in Space. I never knew that there was so much to learn about instruments. I just thought you played them and became famous. I hope I can try playing some of the instruments I learned about soon. Thank you Ben for coming to our class and teaching us about the trombone.

Terrific Tuba

I really enjoyed listening to the tuba because the sound was very deep. I liked how all of the instruments had a low sound and a high sound. We learned that the bigger instruments make a lower sound and the smaller instruments make a higher sound. My friend Jaya liked the flute the best.

Before the Downbeat

The Before the Downbeat program is fantastic! I feel like I go into a concert better prepared and learn about new ways to listen to the music.

Our Symphony Friends

My younger students are so in love with Harmon. They are wondering if Harmon will ever get out of space and how she ended up there in the first place. Harmon in Space has given us ample opportunity to watch "our friends" at the Kingston Symphony and have talks about the instruments and learn about the orchestra as a whole. My students are not only in love with our furry friend Harmon, but every single musician that played a part. My students think you are all celebrities, they can't even imagine you live right here in Ontario just like them.

Bringing Joy into My Life

Attending Sunday afternoon Kingston Symphony concerts is a priority for me. It is a way to enjoy truly great art and the pre-concert talks allow me to make a stronger connection to the music. I appreciate that the focus of the talks are to guide my listening and because of that, I have embraced that philosophy of deep, focused listening in my home life. Thank you for curating such a personal and deep affinity for orchestral music as it continues to bring joy into my life.

A Great Sense of Wonder

I am a Queen's University music student and periodically, we are allowed to attend Kingston Symphony rehearsals to audit and learn more about how a professional orchestra prepares for a concert. My path to studying music and my desire to teach music was in part the result of attending these rehearsals as well as being fortunate enough to attend the Kingston Symphony concerts for students and young people throughout my childhood. Thank you for creating a great sense of wonder and love of music, which will remain with me throughout my life.

Why is Harmon in space?

Harmon in Space is an amazing show! Thank you for taking the time to create it. I loved that the ship that Harmon was on was made out of instruments. Harmon is such a cute little dog. When Showdan teased Harmon, the jokes were funny. The last episode was my favourite episode because it had every instrument playing equally, and the music in it was amazing. I wish we got to know why Harmon was in space. Thank you Carina Canonico for coming to our class and teaching us about the clarinet. I look forward to seeing more shows that are amazing like Harmon in Space.

Magical!

Being a part of Kingston Youth Orchestra is rewarding when all the instruments come together and make something more magical than I could do on my own! I have made many friendships over the time I have been with Kingston Youth Orchestra and it’s fun to be able to play music regularly with them. Mr. J, the conductor, has great energy and he creates a fun environment for all the musicians. It’s a time of the week I look forward to!

Kingston Youth Orchestra

I am an exchange student who auditioned this year for the Kingston Youth Orchestra and got first bassoon. Thanks to the Kingston Youth Orchestra (the musicians, the conductor and the pieces of music we are playing), I can feel like home and continue to learn and enjoy while playing the bassoon.

Kingston Community Strings

It's the perfect way to end the week…Everyone is just so friendly every time you walk in. It’s just a really lovely feeling to feel like you’re part of something bigger than just you.

Kingston Community Strings, a Welcoming Community

It can be intimidating joining a group of people who are all playing an instrument because you feel like you might have to perform a certain way, but everyone here is ridiculously nice and welcoming and it does not matter what your skill level is. The more important thing is that you’re here to have fun and play some music together. The people are very good.

Joy in Making Music

Kingston Community Strings is a wonderful way of enjoying the company of people from all walks of life and demographics who share the common interests and joy in making music, just for music’s sake.

Making Music Fun and Accessible

In music class we watched Harmon in Space to learn about the instruments in an orchestra. From there the students became obsessed with everything Harmon! They wanted to write Harmon a letter and draw her pictures. We were able to incorporate music, math, and language using your series! Thank you for making music so fun and accessible.

Classically Hip

For the last three years I have been going to Kingston Symphony concerts and have always enjoyed myself. Thank you for offering the Classically Hip program. It is so simple and allows me to hear great music at a price I can afford. The concerts have improved my university experience.

Part of Our Community’s Soul

The Kingston Symphony adds depth to the city and contributes to the community’s soul. The creative unabashed perspective of Music Director Evan Mitchell is infectious and embraced by the orchestra and audience to the delight of all.

Science of Sound

The PA Day program 'Science of Sound' with the Kingston Symphony on May 30th was a fantastic, hands-on program that engaged families in learning through music. The Limestone Trio’s sound demonstration and concert, paired with crafts and demo instruments from Joe’s M.I.L.L., helped kids explore how sound works through all their senses. A truly enriching and memorable experience!
