Masterworks Five

Goulet & Tchaikovsky

Powerful

Sunday, February 7, 2027 at 2:30 p.m.

Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts
Masterworks 5

Gather around for a familiar tale. Throughout time people have united to hear a good yarn. Some of history’s greatest composers have also achieved master storyteller status. Bizet’s operatic blockbuster has enraptured since its premiere. Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto fascinates with its bewitching narrative. And Maxime Goulet’s enchanting Ice Storm Symphony tells the tale of a generational weather event that brought Eastern Canada to a standstill in 1998.

Program

Bizet: Excerpts from Carmen Suite
Tchaikovsky: Violin Concerto
Goulet: Ice Storm Symphony

Artists

Yosuke Kawasaki, Violin
Evan Mitchell, Conductor

Before the Downbeat

Before the Downbeat involves a number of initiatives designed to enhance the concert experience for our audience by providing in-depth knowledge about the program of music that will be performed at our concerts. Initiatives include pre-concert talks and interviews with our Music Director and musicians.

Meet the Music

Meet the Music, a pre-concert talk hosted by our Music Director, Evan Mitchell, will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the Isabel in the Recital Hall on Sunday, February 7, 2027. The focus will be on the repertoire to be performed at our Goulet & Tchaikovsky concert. We hope it will provide more insight into the program for this concert. Admission is free with a concert ticket and seating is first come, first served.
