Masterworks Six

Rossini & Mendelssohn

Delicious

Sunday, March 7, 2027 at 2:30 p.m.

Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts
Masterworks 6

What could be more delightful than a curated multiple-course musical meal? Your sense of taste will be tantalized by a smorgasbord of selections inspired by food, from the legendary Nutcracker Suite through Strauss’ brilliant Schlagobers Suite, with strong notes of coffee and whipped cream. Summon your appetite from selections by Rossini, Vaughan Williams and Zappa, and salivate over Mendelssohn’s Midsummer Night’s Dream. For if music be the food of love, play on!

Program

Rossini: Overture to William Tell
Mendelssohn: Incidental music from Midsummer Night’s Dream
Vaughan Williams: March of the Kitchen Utensils from The Wasps
Strauss: Coffee from Schlagobers Suite
Tchaikovsky: Nutcracker Suite
Zappa: Peaches in Regalia

Before the Downbeat

Before the Downbeat involves a number of initiatives designed to enhance the concert experience for our audience by providing in-depth knowledge about the program of music that will be performed at our concerts. Initiatives include pre-concert talks and interviews with our Music Director and musicians.

Meet the Music

Meet the Music, a pre-concert talk hosted by our Music Director, Evan Mitchell, will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the Isabel in the Recital Hall on Sunday, March 7, 2027. The focus will be on the repertoire to be performed at our Rossini & Mendelssohn concert. We hope it will provide more insight into the program for this concert. Admission is free with a concert ticket and seating is first come, first served.
