Storytelling and live music take centre stage
Experience the magic of storytelling and live music with the Kingston Symphony and Canadian composer Abigail Richardson-Schulte. Join us for an unforgettable family concert celebrating Canadian history and storytelling through music, featuring The Hockey Sweater and The Gull, the Raccoon, and the Last Maple, narrated live by Richardson-Schulte. This performance takes place on Sunday, November 8, 2026 at 2:30 p.m. at the Isabel.
The Hockey Sweater is based on author Roch Carrier's childhood memories. This cherished story follows a young Montreal Canadiens fan who wears Maurice Richard's number 9. When his worn-out sweater needs replacing, an order placed with Eaton's department store accidentally results in him receiving the jersey of Montreal's rival, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Gull, the Raccoon, and the Last Maple is an entertaining fable about two resourceful animals vying for the final maple tree. They must discover how to work together when confronting shared obstacles.
Designed to be accessible for audiences of all ages, this concert will bring classic narratives to life while gathering friends, families, and community members to share in a live orchestral music experience.
Prior to the concert, please join us for pre-show activities designed for families, made possible through the generous support of Kawartha Financial Services and the Community Foundation for Kingston & Area. We are excited to partner with Joe’s Music Mill, who will be bringing some instruments for audience members to try out.
This concert is presented with support from The Smith Homestead Foundation, Classic FM, and WPBS.
