Masterworks Two

Haydn & Beethoven

Rebellious

Sunday, October 25, 2026 at 2:30 p.m.

Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts
Masterworks 2

Whether a restless temperament, a protest against authority, or the impulse to blaze a new compositional path, composers have created some of the world’s finest works from an innate spirit of rebellion. From Haydn’s Farewell Symphony, the ultimate protest piece, to Beethoven’s brilliant Symphony No. 7, standing in the face of convention, this concert calls upon the rebel in us all.

Program

Sullivan: Overture to H.M.S. Pinafore
Haydn: Symphony No. 45
Bartok: Romanian Folk Dances
Beethoven: Symphony No. 7

Artists

Frédéric-Alexandre Michaud, Guest Conductor

Before the Downbeat

Before the Downbeat involves a number of initiatives designed to enhance the concert experience for our audience by providing in-depth knowledge about the program of music that will be performed at our concerts. Initiatives include pre-concert talks and interviews with our Music Director and musicians.

Meet the Music

Meet the Music, a pre-concert talk hosted by Guest Conductor Frédéric-Alexandre Michaud, will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the Isabel in the Recital Hall on Sunday, October 25, 2026. The focus will be on the repertoire to be performed at our Haydn & Beethoven concert. We hope it will provide more insight into the program for this concert. Admission is free with a concert ticket and seating is first come, first served.
