The Kingston Symphony Volunteers Music Awards is an annual competition that recognizes and encourages the development of musical excellence among young musicians studying symphony orchestra instruments. It provides thousands of dollars in prize money to support young performers living in Kingston and the surrounding region. 

2016 Music Awards Winners

Allan-Jack Memorial Award: $1,500 (shared)

The Allan-Jack Award is given to the applicant or applicants judged as the overall best performer(s). Three applications were submitted this year. The adjudicators were unable to agree on the most deserving musician and as a result, it was decided that the top prize, the Allan-Jack Memorial Award of $1,500, was to be divided equally between the two top winners

Winner: Heidi Scott, oboe ($750)

Winner: Melanie Kennedy, flute ($750)

Harriet Scott Memorial Award: $500

The Harriet Scott Memorial Award will fund awards for applicants from each of the Kingston Symphony Association youth ensembles: $500 in total for the Kingston Youth Orchestra, Kingston Youth Strings, and Kingston A-Strings.

Winner: Joseph Dashney, trombone
